Reporting to the Manager of Engineering Services, the Structural Engineer is responsible for the efficient management and engineering of major and minor construction projects for retrofit, renewal and new work in residential and commercial buildings.
Responsibilities:
• Works as part of a project team delivering Design-Build Structural restoration solutions
• Provides designs, design-build, construction management, engineering and associated planning, pricing and procurement services, etc.
• Performs assessments on building conditions
• Performs investigations, design and administration of remedial work on roof systems, balcony systems, cladding systems, window and glazing systems and underground parking garages
• Prepares investigation reports, incorporating engineering specifications and presents findings to project team members
• Designs and manages projects either as part of a project team or independently
• Coordinates with other disciplines, both internal and external
• Controls project budget, staffing and schedule and accepts responsibility for project deliverables and outcomes
• Assists with the preparation of tendering documents and general contract administration
• Conducts construction inspections and site reviews, ensuring work is performed in accordance with original engineering specifications
• Oversees the progress of specific construction projects including cost control, drawing review, co-ordination, facilitation and documentation of project development from contract award through to construction completion
• Monitors project schedule and daily troubleshooting of potential problems to avoid construction delays
Qualifications:
• Registered professional engineer in the province of Ontario with a minimum of 5 years experience in Structural Engineering with general project management experience
• Ontario based knowledge and experience in a consulting environment
• Understanding of the relevant legislation, by-laws and codes affecting residential development and construction including a strong knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Lien Acts
• Analytical skills in developing, evaluating design and constructability issues and recommending value engineering
• Experience in establishing and monitoring construction and financial controls to achieve on time/on budget project completion
• Proficient in preparing, reading and interpreting construction designs and documents, preparing and assembling designs, estimates, working budgets, cash flows and pricing
• Ability to deliver a wide variety of project scopes, manage construction scheduled, cash flow and to ensure timely completion of construction work
• Knowledge of sustainable building design and implementation
